Math Lines Scavenger Hunt Today’s activity is a scavenger hunt. Look around your house, yard, or neighborhood to find an example of a line, line segment, ray, intersecting lines, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines. Share with me what you found either in a photo, a group of sentences telling what you found, or drawings of what you found.

I can’t imagine teaching or learning geometry straight from a textbook. There are so many ways to make the study of shapes and angles come alive.

One of our favorite geometry activities for all ages is a geometry scavenger hunt. Preschool GeometryWe have used the geometry scavenger hunt many times over the years in different ways and levels. When the kids were just learning their shapes, the goal for them was to recognize shapes in their environment.I might give them a card with a picture of a circle on it and then have them find a circle somewhere in the house or outside in the yard. Elementary GeometryElementary level geometry means angles and 3 dimensional shapes. I used to love measuring the angles of things around the house. Angles are fun to seek and find.Learning about 3 dimensional shapes is very difficult using just a 2 dimensional textbook. Using real-life shapes is essential.

Finding them in a scavenger hunt makes understanding the concept easy.When doing a geometry scavenger hunt, be creative.
